what

WE are doing?

Latinos-Unidos humanitarian assistance programs address protection for vulnerable populations; water, sanitation and hygiene; health; shelter and housing; livelihoods; and education in emergencies. We emphasize identifying the most vulnerable in remote, hard-to-reach areas or in difficult and crowded urban centers; and we engage children, youth, women, the disabled, the elderly and marginalized groups.

Hurricane Maria in PR
Puerto Rico is in a state of crisis. In the wake of Hurricane Maria, mass flooding and destruction have put children throughout the island at risk. The governor has warned that this is “the worst hurricane in a century,” and that rebuilding will be a tremendously difficult undertaking.
Latinos-Unidos is mobilizing to get immediate, critical support — Emergency Relief Kits — to the children of Puerto Rico.

CAVEATS WORTH MENTIONING

A donation of just $28 will provide a kit containing basic, essential supplies such as water purification tablets, a water bucket with lid, water containers, soap, toothpaste, detergent and sanitary pads. The supplies will help children and their families keep clean and healthy, protecting them from diseases that can occur after the loss of equipment and infrastructure and the disruption of a safe water supply.
Mexican Earthquake
Latinos Unidos is prepared to support relief efforts in Mexico following the devastating earthquake that struck on September 19. A team of volunteers from the local aid service of the Order of Malta has been dispatched to Mexico City to provide urgent rescue and first-aid measures. The magnitude 7.1 earthquake hit central and southern Mexico, killing over 240 people and destroying many buildings, including the headquarters of the Mexican Association of the Order of Malta as well as school run by its aid service in the country. “The people of Mexico will need help to rebuild their lives and infrastructure after this disaster”. “The Mexican Association of the Order of Malta is well positioned and equipped for emergency intervention. We are in close contact with our colleagues in Mexico, and are standing ready to offer any support they would need in their relief efforts.”

CAVEATS WORTH MENTIONING

As the full extent of damage comes into focus, Direct Relief will continue working with medical companies and government agencies in Mexico to bring needed medical supplies to areas of need. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
